WCD Celebrates 25 Years with a Regional Meeting in Mexico
Mexico City, May 30, 2025 – Convened by the LATAM Regional Institute of Women Corporate Directors (WCD), business leaders and experts will gather in this city on June 2nd and 3rd to discuss the economic and geopolitical environment, including trade, tariffs, and investment trends in the region.
In addition, the LATAM Regional Institute of WCD has included panels, discussions, and working sessions on innovation and the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and Generative Artificial Intelligence, new technologies, cybersecurity, sustainability, and energy transition in the program.
The first day, Jorge Suárez-Vélez, CEO and founding partner of Americana Partners International, will present the geopolitical scenarios for the region, while on the second day, Idelfonso Guajardo, President of Ansley Consultores, former Secretary of Economy, and former USMCA negotiator, will give a lecture on trade trends in Latin America.
The event, which will be held at the Club de Industriales under the theme “Governance and Opportunity in Latin America for Changing Times”, is part of the 25th anniversary celebration of WCD, the world’s largest organization and community of women corporate directors, interim-led by Mary Beth Vitale. The co-directors of the Mexico chapter are Mónica Loaiza and Ana Ramírez.
Among its objectives, WCD promotes gender equality on current boards and empowers female directors to lead corporate boards with vision.
More than 8,500 public and private boards are represented in WCD, including female executives from companies included in indices such as the S&P 500, FTSE 250, DAX, and Nikkei.
For nearly 20 years, KPMG has been a steadfast supporter of WCD, believing that the inclusion of diverse voices in the boardroom is essential for effective corporate governance. In accordance with their survey of Women in Top Management 2025 having a diverse boardroom is of upmost importance to face current business landscape challenges and women´s participation in leadership positions is critical for achieving this.

Globally, the participation of women on boards of directors increased on average from 10% in 2003 to 27% in 2022, according to OECD data.
According to WCD data, when companies include women on their boards of directors, business results are significantly higher.
For example, return on equity (ROE) is 46% higher in companies with three or more women on the board compared to those without them. Without them, the ROE is 10.5%; with three or more women on the board, the ROE rises to 15.3%, an increase of 46%, or 4.8 percentage points.
The meeting program, which can be checked here, includes the participation of a wide range of experts, including Víctor Esquivel, senior partner at KPMG Mexico; Ana F. Maiguashca, Head, Private Competitiveness Council Colombia and; Gabriel Lozano, Chief Economist and Macroeconomic Policy Head Mexico at JP Morgan Mexico; and Elijah Oliveros-Rosen, Chief Economist, Emerging Markets, S&P Global Ratings.
Lorenzo González, Head of Temasek Mexico, and Beatriz Leycegui, Partner at SAI Law and Economics and former Undersecretary of Economy, are also part of the program, which will address global pressures on global trade and tariffs.
Other participants and speakers at the meeting include María Ariza, CEO of the Institutional Stock Exchange (BIVA); Víctor Esquivel CEO of KPMG Mexico; María Paula Duque, Sustainability Leader at Microsoft Latin America; Elena Estavillo, CEO of the Centro-i for the Society of the Future; Bárbara Mair, Partner at Smart Force Mexico; Lourdes Melgar, Board Member at Cemex; and Óscar Caballero, Lead Partner of Cybersecurity Services at KPMG Mexico and Central America.
